Where will I study?

Abbotsford, where your lessons take place, is said to be the oldest house in the pretty mid-Devon village of Thorverton, in the south-west of England. Because the records for the house were destroyed in the Second World War we do not know its age, but it is probably around 500 years old.

Lessons take place in the library, which is fully equipped with a computer for use during lessons, a whiteboard and high-quality audio-video facilities.

You are welcome to use library  books, CDs or DVDs (there is a small player for you to take home) during your stay with us.

The house stands opposite the church, in the centre of the village. The three pubs are two minutes walk away.

where will I be staying?

The host families are typical middle-class English families,  mostly based in Exeter, with experience of looking after foreign students. Accommodation is in a single room with shared bathroom/toilet, and the cost is included in your course price.

It is also usually possible to place students, at an extra cost of £50 per week, with a family who have a private bathroom/toilet.

If you prefer not to stay with a family at all, there are of course many other options available, from a room in a pub, a private suite on a local farm, or in a four-star hotel in Exeter itself. All of these are, of course, payable at cost by yourself, although we will be pleased to make the booking for you.

The host family  is  an  important part of your England experience. You will have most of your meals with them, and they will treat you as a member of the family. Through them you will get a wider range of contacts.
